Single PI Grants

Single Principal Investigator (PI) grants are solicited annually at a minimum with different topics for each call for proposals. Single PI grants are similar to an NIH R01 or R03.

• Focus: Topic specific
• Schedule: Annually, at a minimum
• Annual Funding Amount: Approximately $400k
• Duration: 2-3 years
• Review: External scientific peer review and programmatic relevance based on the specific solicitation

Industry Grants

Content

Industry grants offer non-dilutive funding to U.S.-based companies to develop space-compatible health solutions from their already existing technologies. 100% of matching funds is required to maximize the institute’s federal dollars.

• Focus: Topic specific
• Schedule: Solicited annually at a minimum
• Annual Funding Amount: Variable, up to $500K per year
• Duration: Variable, generally 12 months
• Review: External scientific peer review and programmatic relevance based on the specific solicitation

Catalyst Program grants are unsolicited proposals that may be submitted at any time. This funding vehicle is best suited for pilot or proof-of-principle projects with a small amount of funding and a short duration.

• Focus:
• Schedule: Submit any time
• Annual Funding Amount: Variable, generally $100k
• Duration: 12-18 months
• Review: Programmatic relevance and external scientific peer reviews. Reviewed as received.

Synergy Grants

Content

Synergy grants are Intended to permit sharing of resources and personnel across Space Health-funded projects to allow researchers to get the most value from each project.

• Focus:
• Schedule: Unsolicited. Submit any time.
• Annual Funding Amount: Generally $25K, however up to $100K on occasion
• Duration: 12 months
• Review: Internal scientific and programmatic relevance review. Reviewed quarterly.

Program grants consist of a team of investigators from different institutions or companies to enable the leveraging of expertise and resources.

• Focus: Topic specific
• Schedule: Solicited. Variable.
• Annual Funding Amount: Variable, generally $850K per year
• Duration: 2-4 years
• Review: External scientific peer review and programmatic relevance based on the specific solicitation
